In botany, a radicle is a catalyst. It is the first sprout to appear during germination, anchoring the seedling in its infancy and becoming the plant’s primary root. Radicle magazine is designed with the botanical term in mind, creating a space for personal germination and transformation. Filled with long-form pieces and interactive prompts, Radicle provides a way for individuals to engage with environmentalism explored through BIPOC voices and perspectives. I was commissioned to illustrate a beautiful conversation with Vanessa Denali Standing Horse Farley, of the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Rocky Boy Indians, about what indigeneity means to her. This piece highlights the importance of indigenous solidarity. Radicle is a project created by Earth in Color, in collaboration with many other talented and kind people.
